Footprints of a Monkey Mind

The struggle to control a busy mind and the importance of being present in the moment. It emphasizes the impact of memories and worries on our ability to fully engage with the present.

I seek to quiet my “monkey mind”, which runs here, there and everywhere with thoughts from the past and worries about the future. I have read ‘How to’ books that taught me how to practice mindfulness and help me embrace peace, abundance, and love in a world with aggression and greed. While my mind is busy remembering or thinking of the future, I miss the moment right here and now and all the wonder and beauty in the present moment. Beverley Joy

Listen HERE – Poem – Tame the Monkey Mind

I walk forward with ease; I walk backwards awkwardly

I remember easily, and I plan forward awkwardly

The decades of our past, memories are known

Yet, we can only guess about tomorrow.

Our human mind is always striving

To fix problems, find solutions

Our forward drive, our backward pull

Thoughts of reality and fantasy.

Backpacks loaded with regrets

Make life a heavy stagger uphill

Instead of emptying before travelling

We hold on and relive our yesteryears.

I seek to quiet my monkey mind

Of manic thoughts, out of control

With meditation and less distraction

Mindfulness and gratitude.

As I walk this life, I want to tread

Steps of peace on aggressiveness

Footprints of plenty on greed

Sole impressions of love on the mean.
