INTRO: I wrote this Christian poem in 2018 when I was a prison chaplain. I was inspired by the Youtube video ‘What Christians Believe in 90 seconds. I expanded and simplified this theme so that the prisoners could understand this gospel message. Each month I recited a different poem during the prison chapel service for the prisoners. Beverley Joy
PODCAST – God’s Love Light and Life
In the beginning, there was God with His Spirit
Loving His Son full of love, light, and life
They created the heavens, the earth, and all creatures
Filling them with eternal love, light, and life.
But we look around the world and see
That love, light and life are diminishing?
Well, God knew His creation, the human beings,
Would turn away and rebel against Him.
When you turn away from love, you face hatred
When you turn away from light, you face darkness,
When you turn away from life, you face death
So, what did God do about that?
From His love, light and life God sent His Son
To bring love, light, and life back to His creation
To pay our debt of hatred and rebellion
To be filled with God’s love, light and life again.
Jesus lived and died in our world
That is filled with hatred, darkness and death
But He rose again to conquer them
And now lives again in God’s love, light and life.
For God to save His creation there must be
Full payment of sin and rebellion
God’s judgement and wrath must be satisfied
Jesus cried from the cross “It is finished.”
Now Jesus turns to you and calls
“You, in hatred, come to my love”
“You, in darkness, come to my light”
“You, in death, come to my life.”
“Come into our eternal family.”
“My Father becomes your father.”
“My spirit becomes your spirit.”
“My church family becomes your family.”
A free gift wrapped in God love, grace, and mercy
But to accept this gift our hands must be empty
We must turn and face Him, stand before Him
In all our shame, rebellion and sin.
“I believe Jesus died for my sin
I believe His death set me free
But how do I live in His love, light and life
All I know is hatred, darkness and death?
Jesus said He is the way, the truth, and the life
He is the light that exposes our darkness
God’s love shatters our stony heart of hatred
And gives us a soft heart that desires the truth
Of His love, light and life.
