Likens God’s protection to a mother hen protecting her chicks, providing safety and warmth.
This poem is based on Psalm 91 verses 1 to 4, The poem also emphasizes the aspects of faith, trust and resilience in adversity.
In this current challenging time across our precious world, of post-COVID economic hardship, wars and potential wars, I am reposting my most popular faith poem, which to my surprise over the years, has received over 8,000 views since I first published it during COVID 2021.
I write my poems as a personal devotional activity and simply share them with the world, to offer comfort and encouragement. This was one of the first Christian poems I wrote in 2014 based on Psalm 91 verses 1-4. hearing a sermon on Psalm 91 and further studying the passage. I also wrote another poem titled God Protects from Enemy Attacks based on Psalm 91 verses 5-13.
I love how the feature image I chose shows the chicks totally hidden under the mother hens’ feathers. It took me some time to choose the backing tune for this poem’s podcast, as I wanted it to reflect the movement of chickens, and eventually, I found this staccato plucking tune. Beverley Joy

When we run to God for protection
He will cover us with His love
Like a mother hen that spreads her wings
To cover her defenceless chicks.
The mother hen’s wings not only protect
When her chicks cry out to her for help
But she calls them to “Come quick and hide”
When she foresees danger and strife.
As well as keeping her baby chicks safe
She is ready to fight off enemy attacks
She cherishes them and keeps them warm
From the bleak winter cold and storms.
God’s gracious love we can compare
To the mother hen’s love for her chicks so dear
God protects and cherishes His beloved
Under His Almighty wings of love.
God’s wings of love are not weak like feathers
But as strong as bulletproof steel armour
Yet as flexible, warm and soft as feathers
To completely encompass and comfort us.
When you feel afraid or feel like easy prey
God invites us to run to Him
History shows how He protects
People who trust and have faith in Him.

The sense of comfort and security envelops me thinking that as a Mother Hen, Jesus, calls us to Him to hide us from an enemy. Thanks be to our God.

Amen so true, if only we would remain in His presence as 🐥 chicks do, by not wondering afar off. Such that when danger lurks we will be close enough to be covered…. 🙏🏽

i live in a rural area and sometimes come across a hen with her chicks trying to cross the road. I see how she ensures they cross the street and then she spreads her wings around them when she senses impending danger. if we could always believe that Jesus is there to shield us from the storms that we see or do not see.
